Waziup (in Swahili "Open-Up") started in 2015 with a vision to offer fully open-source Internet of things (IoT) technologies to African tech hubs, start-ups and young communities.
The Waziup platform is a suite of ready-to-use IoT components designed for start-ups and entrepreneurs.
Waziup technologies have been developed specifically to combat the challenges faced by entrepreneurs in the African continent. Their goal is to provide a highly cost-effective and affordable IoT solution based on low power and long-range LoRa communications. It is co-designed and co-developed by African entrepreneurs to empower the social entrepreneurs and foster the industrial IoT application.
Until now, Waziup technologies have organised more than 100 IoT training sessions, trained more than 1 000 African young talents, distributed more than 200 IoT development kits, and supported 80+ start-ups to prototype their IoT solutions. Waziup is building an African IoT open platform and ecosystem in collaboration with more than 15 tech hubs.
Waziup is deploying the IoT Lab for the African Techhub, Makekhub, competence centre, and research lab.
